West Coast Morgans offers a fantastic, educational, themed horse camp experience over the Summer and Winter when the Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas county schools share vacation dates. Summer camp that begins every year at the end of May/beginning of June, and Winter camp covers the two weeks over the Christmas and New Years vacation weeks.
All of the details are on the camp registration page - dates, and more.
Camp is fun for riders of all levels, beginner to advanced. Campers learn to groom, tack and untack the horses. They also partake in horse-related activities such as fun games, painting and bathing the horses, and so much more we cannot even list it all here.
Each Friday over the summer, KONA ICE comes to WCM to spread yummy joy!
We pride ourselves for the education we provide in our all of our horsemanship programs. Camp is immersion for horse kids! The core elements are all the same each day with lessons on the ground and in tack, but each week has a different flavor so kids can learn many different aspects of horse management - for medicine and health, to hunt seat, saddle seat, western, owning a horse farm, and more!
At West Coast Morgans we teach our campers about our Morgans and other horse breeds all day long! Most campers are novice riders, but we can handle more advanced camper skills as well. We want everyone to be able to learn as much as we can teach them.
Camp drop off is between 9:00 and 9:30 am and pick up is between 4:00 and 4:30 pm. Early drop-off and late pick up options are available, see the registration page for all of the details.
- Campers will ride and participate in many horse-related activities throughout the day.
- All campers must bring a lunch and a refillable water/gatorade bottle.
- Proper attire for camp would be long pants, yoga pants, jeans, whatever makes them feel comfortable. We prefer them to have riding boots or a shoe with a heel. All must wear an appropriate shirt, no spaghetti straps. If campers do not own a riding helmet they may use their bike helmets or they can borrow one of our many riding helmets.
- We have gloves and other riding gear available for purchase, please see it on the camp registration.
- Water play is optional during the summer session.
Horse camp is a wonderful time for all, we hope to see you there! Contact us if you have any questions.
West Coast Morgans also offers a 3 hour special event camp where participants join us in a customized half day program. This can be a light or more intense equine experience. These half day programs are throughout the year on a limited basis (due to our current training and competition schedule). Children 6 years on up may ride, younger children may attend but not ride.
These events are great for birthday celebrations, corporate lunches, and more!
The program includes our essential WCM educational horse activities such as grooming and riding and or driving. We offers different educational stations and activities, so while one group is riding, there are other actvities to keep everyone busy. The riding portion is english (unless otherwise specified), and each person will have an assigned instructor to work with him/her privately, while in a fun group setting. The rides are in a mini-lesson format where the riders work on skills steering, posting, and maintaining control in the saddle. The more advanced a person is, the more he/she will be allowed to do, and our instructors assess each student accordingly. Our excellent lesson horses help give everyone the opportunity to learn the proper way have fun with horses! WCM horses are kind, friendly and love attention.
Each WCM Horsemanship program offers unique experiences and focuses on education around horses. We do our very best to ensure that everyone has a wonderful and memorable experience to last a lifetime.
Cost is based on the number of actual riders:
1-10 Riders $700
11-15 Riders $750
16-20 Riders $800
In the West Coast Morgans tradition of education and excellence, we have partnered with the Girl and Boy Scouts to facilitate the scouts earning their Horsemanship badge requirements. We schedule these group lessons sessions for riders 6 & up on Saturday afternoons or Sundays. Both organizations have slightly different requirements and we have blended required topics to provide an educational horsemanship session.
The cost is only $70 per student and we spend a packed 2 hour visit with the following subjects. The purpose of which is to expose the scouts to a broad range of detailed topics about horsemanship, safety, animal care and farm management. The specific material covered is below, and completion of which grants each scout credit towards his/her specific horsemanship program. Specific merit badge requirements are custom to each organization, and more information is available through scout leadership and also on their respective program websites. WCM Staff helps tailor with the Scout Leaders to faciltiate each program.
Below are the links to the completion of each badge. Formal education is required for both.
